It is so much fun to live your dreams. We have been dreaming of a new office building for years and now we are watching it grow. A beautiful cherry frame now stands where only a few weeks ago there was an empty space. With this timeless form of building we are bridging the ages as we now combine state of the art systems such as hydronic geothermal heating and air conditioning with the tried and true beam mortises. It is almost tempting to leave the structure uncompleted so it can be admired in this form, but only almost. Keep watching the website and watch this flower bloom!

Internet Store: Hardwood Flooring

Fall is coming, and the holidays are not far behind, that makes it the perfect time of year to install a beautiful new hardwood floor. Impress your guests with something original and exotic like Koa or Tasmanian Blackwood. Brighten an entry way or kitchen with figured Maple or Sycamore. Snuggle in for the winter over warm-toned Cherry, Walnut or Rustic American Chestnut. Nothing makes over a room quite like new quality flooring.

For the past couple of months we have been working to update the Internet Store- "Flooring Section". There is always more work to be done, but 23 of our one of a kind floors are now featured online: Birdseye Maple, Cherry, Pippy Oak, Wych Elm, Walnut, English Sycamore, even Koa! Due to our large inventory of specialty hardwoods we could never list all of the possibilities for flooring, so please feel free to contact us with ideas of your own. Our floors are made with random 3"-4"-5" inch widths, or set widths 3, 4, or 5". All floors are made on a custom order basis. They are a solid non-finished, 3/4” tongue and groove with stress relief on the underside. We can guarantee your floor will truly be one of a kind; our flooring manager, Chris Tankalavage, hand picks every board, one at a time, and mills every floor himself. For more information or to order a floor today please call and ask for Chris- (888) 814 - 0007 or e-mail: [email protected]. As always we continue to strive to make your online shopping experience as easy as possible. Please email us with any suggestions that you may have to improve the Internet Store and/or with any items that you would like to see featured for sale.  Contact us at [email protected].

Featured Wood: Cherry

September's "wood of the month" is Cherry (Prunus serotina). Other names include; black cherry, cabinet cherry, rum cherry, whiskey cherry, and wild cherry. The heartwood in Cherry ranges from a brilliant red to reddish brown. The grain is usually fine and straight with narrow brown pith flecks. Because of its beautiful color and grain pattern Cherry is widely popular and used in any number of projects. It is most commonly used in furniture, cabinetmaking, joinery, woodturning, carving, veneers and hardwood flooring.

We purchase our Cherry from local loggers, being that we are conveniently located in southeastern Pennsylvania, one of the best regions for the finest Cherry found in North America. Also because of this fact, we carry a huge inventory of Cherry, ranging from the common graded lumber to extraordinary flitch slabs.

Our graded lumber categories are Common, FAS (first and seconds), and Premium. This material is on average, 5"-12" wide, sometimes 15"-20" is available, and 6'-12' long. We normally carry 4/4 -16/4 stock.

Our flitches are perfect for book matched table, desk, and bar tops. They are normally 20"-30" wide but we have a few up to 50".

Announcements: "Old Fashioned Barn Raising"

August was an exciting month at Hearne Hardwoods; our first of two barn raisings took place on our new administrative office building. A crew of local Amish men, employees, and friends showed up to help hoist the Cherry timber frame. A traditional pig roast for lunch rivaled the "barn fun”. And an unseasonably cool day added to the overall enjoyment.

Hearne Hardwoods is grateful for all of those that hammered, strained, and cooked, to make the day run so smoothly.

We are all looking forward to September as we prepare to construct the second half; this time White Oak beams with Ebony pegs.
