Sometimes in our lives we have to deal with the darker aspects of living. This month has been one of pain for us here at Hearne Hardwoods. First we buried my older sister and only sibling Mimi Barringer who passed away after a short battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband Allen and her four children, John Paul, Libby, Laura and Juliana. Then we lost Brain’s old friend and fishing buddy, Jeff Thomas who died in a motorcycle accident. Last night my son Chris' best friend, Joe Black passed away from post surgical complications. It doesn’t do any good to question why these things happen; from the moment we are born we know we will die, we just don’t know when. We did have the gift of their love for a period that seems to short. What we sometimes realize too late is that we have wasted some precious moments; life is too short for this. Mimi, Jeff, and Joe, the world is now a little lonelier, we miss you. Our prayers are with the Barringer, Thomas, and Black families.

Recent News:

Rick Hearne made a few notable shopping stops during the month of October. In Bulgaria, he purchased some abnormally large Persian Walnut logs, some of which he had been searching for particular dimensions for about three years. He also acquired some Plum wood.

Rick than took a slight detour to Austria to attend a rare auto auction. Unfortunately for Rick the Ferrari that he had his eye on was a few hundred thousand dollars out of his price range... and may I add fortunately for our new office building! For the antique car enthusiast I included a few pictures in the photo gallery.

In Italy he bought some beautiful Alpine Red Spruce and English Sycamore- Perfect for guitar tops; flat top guitars, arch top guitars, and two full double bass sets.

Internet Store: Veneer

Although we are primarily a hardwood dealer we do stock a select few exotic veneers; a few of which are so rare, we do not/ cannot carry them in solids. We normally carry 8 to 15 different species. Our menu varies, but at any given time we might have Koa, Quilted Bubinga, Maccassar Ebony, English Brown Oak, Tiger Maple, Rosewood Burl, French Walnut, Swiss Pear, etc.

All of our veneer is extremely fragile- normal thickness is .5 mm. It is sold by the full slice and priced by the slice. We do offer wholesale discounts on full and half veneer sets.

Most of the veneer that we stock can be viewed on our Internet Store- Veneer. To place an order over the phone, or for more information, please call (888)- 814- 0007 and ask for our Veneer Manager, Lee Hearne or by email at [email protected].

As always we continue to strive to make your online shopping experience as easy as possible. Please email us with any suggestions that you may have to improve the Internet Store and/or with any items that you would like to see featured for sale.  Contact us at [email protected].

Newsletter Special of the Month:

5/4 Heavy Figured Tiger Maple:

A fantastic opportunity for the woodworker looking to make panels, jewelry boxes, or any project using two-foot pieces: Several of our heavy figured 5/4 Tiger Maple flitches were dried improperly- the drying sticks created stains about every two feet, otherwise known as sticker shadow. This lumber is normally sold around $15 a board foot; we are selling it to our newsletter subscribers during the month of November for $3 a board foot!

The material is 5/4 (1.25) inches thick, 8"-20" inches wide, and 8'-12' feet long. It is in flitch form, so the boards have a natural edge. The stain can be planed out of some slabs; others will need to be cut, yielding two-foot increments. All material is sold as is and we are requiring a 100 board foot minimum order. If you have any questions concerning quality please give us a call (888) 814 -0007.
