2008 is flying by here in Pennsylvania and despite the hardships being experienced by many, there are some really cool projects underway by many of our customers. I think this reflects on the old adage “There is always a market for good work”. When the economy tightens people are more careful about how they spend their money and tend to opt for things that don’t wear out and are enjoyed over and over. Maybe having friends over to enjoy a good home cooked meal will become more of the “American way of life” instead of hanging out at a shopping mall, driving cars that need their own personal oil fields, living in houses that need intercoms to find family members, and wearing clothes that don't seem to stay in fashion. If this comes to pass maybe we all have enough money to get through these times, the rest of the world makes do with less. This is after all a small planet.

Recent News:

Rick Hearne started off the month with a relaxing vacation in Hawaii (however he did locate some Koa while he was "resting"). Then it was a short stop at home before he was on the road again in search of European lumber.

After completing the days' business in Bulgaria, his friend Svilen took Rick for a walk into the Balkan Mountains. After a three-mile hike, they paid their respects to the world's largest standing wild pear tree. (See right hand photo)

The last leg of his trip was a short stay in Germany. It turned out to be a huge success- Rick found a sensational Persian Walnut Burl log!! To celebrate he enjoyed an evening of wine and music.

Internet Store: Small Orders of Lumber

Even though we have a $300 minimum order for phone orders, we understand that you don't always need $300 worth of material or maybe you are interested in a small burl- Often overlooked is our solution...our Internet Store! There is never a minimum to purchase something on our Internet Store. Individual boards, hobbyist lumber bundles, and individual burls/ turning stock are always available. We work hard to give you the best description, specific dimensions, pictures, and exact pricing. We have two employees that work everyday to pull your online orders and add fresh material to the "store". Similar to larger orders we still advise customers, it usually takes 3-5 business days to pull your order.

If you have not yet visited our Internet Store- please visit us soon! You can select the category you are most interested in from the dropdown in our banner (located under "Internet Store") on every page. Once in the store, if you prefer, you can also sort by a specific species.

~We strive to make your online shopping experience as easy as possible. Please email us with any suggestions that you may have to improve our site and/or with any items that you would like to see featured for sale. Contact us at [email protected].

Featured Wood: Macassar Ebony

Your temperature will surly rise with July's featured wood- Macassar Ebony, Diospyros celebica. Bold and beautiful, it grows primarily in South East Asia/ Indonesia. This extremely hard species is sometimes referred to as Indian Ebony or Calamander Wood. Macassar Ebony is most commonly used in the making of fine furniture, guitar building, woodturning, cabinetry, and veneer but it is an excellent choice for any refined project.

Stunning and easily recognizable with its vibrant brown, black, gold, or orange stripes, Macassar ebony is heavy and dense like it's "Gabon cousin". Normal widths range from 2- 6 inches and lengths consistently run 3- 10 feet. (However currently in stock we have some rare 8- 14 feet long material!) If you would like more information or to place an order please call (888)~814~0007 or email us at [email protected].

**Please note- we also currently have in stock a small amount of "Royal Ebony Veneer"- also known as "White Macassar Ebony Veneer". We had a few hundred square feet on our Internet Store awhile back- it didn't last long!! We have been searching for more ever since and are happy to say IT'S BACK and AVAILABLE!!!**
