One way that we offer lumber here at Hearne Hardwoods is in flitch form. A flitch is a log that is cut and then kept together. This offers the customer the possibility of buying matching material all from the same tree. In most cases we cut these logs thru and thru with the live edge to have sequential matching boards. Some logs below where cut to maximize quality and figure. These boards usually have sawn edges because we kept turning the log while sawing to get the best quality.
Our below inventory includes only dry flitches. All of these flitches have been air dried and then kiln dried for 2 to 4 weeks in our kiln. We generally kiln dry material to 6 to 8%. Their is some species that we only air dry because this is the best way to dry them. These species are usually air dried 2 to 4 years depending on the species. In some oily species like Italian Olive we air dry them for 2 to 4 years and kiln dry them but they test higher in moisture content even tough they are dry and stable.
Most European Species and some exotic species are only found in flitches because this the only way they are offered in these regions. In these species they are generally not all listed below. Some other dry flitches might not be listed as well. The below consists of 60 to 70% of our dry flitches. So please any questions about the below or the rest of our inventory call us at (888) 814-0007 or e-mail us at: info@hearnehardwoods.com.
